NBC has announced in 2015 they will be producing a 13 episode mini-series entitled ‘Heroes Reborn’, by the creator and executive producer of the original series, Tim Kring.
It’s pretty much hush-hush as to any new characters and plotlines, but it has been hinted that some of the original cast may make an appearance.
A digital webseries is also being planned prior to the premiere, which will introduce the characters and new storyline.
Guess we will just have to wait and see if it happens!
The original series aired from 2006-10 and became quite popular, ranking number one under new drama. It had an average audience of 14.5 million viewers its first season, nominated for the same in the Golden Globes, won the BAFTA Award (best international series), the AFI Award, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Saturn Award, two People’s Choice Awards and the Television Critics Association Award for Program of the Year.
It is purported that ‘Heroes’ has remained one of the best-selling TV series on DVD, with more than 10 million copies sold.
The series was also adapted to an online graphic novel with various writers contributing, and was then released in hard copy, published by Wildstorm which went to print in June 2008.
It was announced at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con that Dynamite Entertainment and Cullen Bunn will be giving ‘Heroes’ a new regeneration in comic book form, though the talk (that same year) of Xbox bringing it to the gaming world was either rumor or apparently shelved, but who knows, with the rebirth of the series (albeit, limited) perhaps XBox will reconsider….or someone else will.
